A Typical Day at GMCH
A day in the life for a Centre Wellington family physician starts in Groves Memorial Community Hospital (GMCH). Early in the morning, physicians typically conduct inpatient rounds, perhaps assist with surgery or conduct minor procedures. By 9:00 am physicians are in their offices seeing patients. Offices are ideally located an easy 5-10 minute drive from the hospital or some are located directly across the street from the hospital.
GMCH runs an Emergency Department providing 24/7 coverage and is staffed by the local group of Family Physicians under the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) Alternate Funding Program. GMCH Family Physicians work on average 4-6 Emergency shifts a month – shifts range from 4-12 hours. Approximately 26,000 patients are seen in the GMCH Emergency Department on an annual basis.
