Visiting Hours

 

Information for Visitors

All visitors entering the hospital during COVID-19 must:

  • Be free of COVID-19 symptoms
  • Have not travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days or had contact with a sick person who has travelled
  • Has not had close contact with a person who has or is suspected to have COVID-19
  • Wear a hospital-provided procedure mask for the duration of the visit
  • Review the education material for the proper use of a procedure mask
  • Enter and exit through designated doors
  • Adhere to additional infection control practices such as hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, etc. and wear the sticker identifying that they have been successfully screened

Emergency Department (ED) Patients:

  • Patients attending the ED will be limited to ONE support person in the following circumstances:
    • Close relatives of a terminally ill patient who is near end of life or recently deceased
    • Parent of a child under the age of 18
    • A support person is requested to attend the hospital to support patients with special needs (e.g. dementia, significant mobility issues, discharge teaching/planning, etc.)
  • Partners in care in the ED will be restricted to the immediate area of the emergency department and will not be permitted to travel with the patient to other areas of the hospital
  • Any additional support persons will be asked to leave the hospital

General Visiting:

  • Partners in care visitors for inpatients will be welcome during the hours of 2pm to 7pm daily
  • Each patient/substitute decision-maker will be asked to identify ONE to TWO partners in care from the “bubble” of the patient’s immediate family
  • Children should not visit unless they are able to wear a mask for the duration of the visit, perform hand hygiene and maintain appropriate social distancing
  • Visits by partners in care will be limited to TWO persons at a time
  • In shared accommodations, partners in care will be limited to ONE at a time and will be asked to remain at the foot of the bed with the curtain drawn, to maintain social distancing for the patient and the others in the room
  • Partners in care are encouraged to limit their visits to once per day, with minimal exit and re-entry
  • Outside of the set hours, support persons will be limited to the following circumstances:
    • Close relatives of a terminally ill patient who is near end of life or recently deceased (no more than five at a time)
    • Parent (one) of a child under the age of 18
    • Support person (one) is requested to attend the hospital to support patients with special needs (e.g. dementia, discharge teaching/planning)

Obstetrical Patients:

  • Patients on the labour and delivery and post-partum unit will be limited to ONE partner in care for the duration of their stay
  • The partner in care must be symptom-free
  • Partners in care will be asked to limit the amount they exit and re-enter the building to reduce the need for re-screening and increased PPE use

Day Surgery/Oncology/Out-Patient :

  • Patients attending outpatient departments will be limited to ONE partner in care in the following circumstances:
    • Parent of a child under the age of 18
    • Partner in care is requested to attend the hospital to support patients with special needs (e.g. dementia, significant mobility issues, discharge teaching/planning, etc.)
  • Partners in care in outpatient areas will be restricted to the immediate area of the clinic/department and will not be permitted to travel with the patient to other areas of the hospital

Virtual Visits are available to all inpatients and are encouraged for visits from persons outside of the patient’s “bubble”, or anyone who does not pass a screening for COVID-19
