There is a shortage of physicians and other health professionals in Ontario, and it is most acute in rural areas such as ours.
The shortage has an effect on health care today and the viability of the community tomorrow. There are residents in our community who have experienced difficulty getting the medical services they need, and because of this, businesses may be reluctant to locate here.
We anticipate that there will be a more acute need for new physicians in five to ten years as many current physicians retire.
The Stakeholders Group believes that we can address this shortage because ours is such an attractive community, and an outstanding place in which to live and work. Our physicians and other health professionals are remarkably dedicated to providing health care in our community and to recruiting new practitioners.
